Packaging Tips & Materials

Pack it right. Arrive right. Follow our guide to make sure your parcel arrives safely — every time.

How to Pack a Parcel

Follow these 6 steps to ensure your parcel arrives in perfect condition.

1

Choose the Right Box

Use a new, sturdy corrugated cardboard box — not a used grocery box. The box should be at least 2mm thick. The item should fit with 5cm of space on all sides for padding.

2

Wrap Fragile Items Thoroughly

Wrap each fragile item individually in at least 5cm of bubble wrap. Pay extra attention to corners and edges. Wrap glass items in at least 3 layers. For electronics, use anti-static bubble wrap.

3

Fill All Empty Space

Fill any empty space inside the box with packing peanuts, crumpled paper or additional bubble wrap. Shake the box gently — if you hear movement, add more padding. Nothing should shift inside.

4

Seal Securely

Close all flaps and seal every seam with at least 2 layers of strong packing tape, including along all edges. Use the H-taping method on the bottom for extra strength.

5

Label Clearly

Write the recipient's full name, address and phone number clearly on at least 2 sides of the box. Include your return address. For fragile items, write 'FRAGILE — HANDLE WITH CARE' in large letters on all sides.

6

For Liquids

Place liquid items in sealed zip-lock bags before wrapping. For bottles, double-bag and surround with at least 10cm of absorbent material. Mark the box 'LIQUID — THIS SIDE UP'.

Specialised Item Packaging

YesJa handles oversized and specialised items. Here's how to prepare them.

Tyres

Stack and wrap tyres in plastic or foam. For single tyres, box them if possible. Label with the size and brand. YesJa handles bulk tyre transport — ask about our pallet rates.

Canopies & Hardtops

Remove any accessories and wrap corner edges in thick foam. Use wooden crating for expensive canopies. YesJa provides specialist handling — contact us for large canopy transport.

Motorcycles

Drain fuel to less than 1/4 tank. Remove mirrors and other protruding accessories. Use proper tie-downs through the frame — never strapped over the seat. YesJa's bike transport specialists will handle the rest.

Farming Implements

Clean all soil and debris from the implement. Fold/remove any moving parts. Photograph the implement before collection. YesJa's heavy transport team will assess and load properly.

Artwork & Mirrors

Use corner protectors on all edges. Wrap in glassine paper first, then bubble wrap. Mark 'DO NOT STACK' and 'FRAGILE'. For valuable artwork, consider specialist art transport.

Electronics

Original packaging is ideal. Otherwise use anti-static bubble wrap and a box at least 2 sizes larger than the item. Remove all batteries. Label 'FRAGILE — ELECTRONICS'.
